ELECTROPLATED BORE BITS – DRY USE

  • High quality diamond Diamante di alta qualità depositato direttamente sul corpo del foretto
  • Hex or M14 connector
  • High performance even on dry use
  • Usable for wet cutting too
  • Recommended speed: 4000 – 11000 rpm
  • Ideal for cutting holes on ceramic, porcelain, marble or granite tiles
  • Several diameter options available

Description

High quality diamond fixed directly onto the drill bit’s metal body through a high temperature, vacuum and high pressure brazing process. Ideal for cutting circular holes on ceramic, porcelain stoneware, marble or granite. Perfectly effective even for dry use (but supporting wet use, too). Rotation speed: 4000-11000 rpm. Several diameter options available.

The expert’s advice

Durability

A bore bit’s durability is strongly influenced by many factors including: rotation speed, pressure exerted by the operator, thickness of the material to be drilled, temperature reached during drilling operations, ratio between bit’s diameter and diamond surface, ratio between bit’s diameter and impact surface on the material, composition and hardness of the material to be drilled, timing of drill vs material contact, drilling angle of incidence. Based on all this, it is reasonable to expect that an electroplated bit may deliver from a minimum of just a few cuts up to a maximum – somewhat optimistic – of about twenty cuts.

Position during cutting

Correct use involves drilling by making the power tool, and therefore the drill, follow a continuous helical oscillation. If constantly kept perpendicular to the surface to be drilled the bore bit will have a very short life !

Common errors and causes of breakage

The main cause of breakage is certainly overheating, to which many factors contribute, but among the most common is maintaining a 90° angle of incidence with constant pressure applied during cutting. In such conditions the cutting crown heats up too much, and furthermore the waste material remains trapped in place, acting as a cushion between the diamond crystals and the bottom of the drill, thus further increasing the temperature to levels even similar to those reachined during its manufacturing. In such conditions the diamond detaches and/or leads the metal to form cracks which may then evolve into complete breakages, the bit loses its cutting properties and ends its useful life.

Gel

There are special gels on the market to be applied on the surface to be drilled. Even when used in small quantities they give the bore bit more breathing space by lubricating the drilling area and thus lowering its temperature (less friction = less heating), prolonging its useful life.

Drillable materials

Our bore bits work well on natural stone materials such as marble and granite, on various types of stoneware and porcelain stoneware, as well as on increasingly hard technical ceramics such as Dekton, Lapitec, Laminam, Kerlite, Neolith.

Dry or wet use

Our bits can totally safely be used in dry environment, with excellent results in terms of performance and durability. They can also be used for wet cut, and in such case their durability will furtherly increase as water helps lower the temperature during usage, and improve on waste material removal from the hole. However, the use of water is impractical in many construction site situations. Compressed air is also an effective alternative to water.

Recommended rotation speed

Bore bits up to 15 / 20 mm in diameter can easily withstand the maximum rotation speeds typical of angle grinders (12,000 rpm). As the diameter increases, it is recommended to reduce the number of revolutions proportionally. It is therefore advisable to use power tools featuring adjustable rotation speeds.

Getting rid of the material from inside the bit

Our bore bits have two slits on the sides of their metal body. Using a pointed tool, or a flathead screwdriver, you can remove the cut material disc / little cylinder “trapped” in there. The operation is easier, the thinner the drilled material is.
